Draco's Inferno Weyr
About DIW

Draco's Inferno Weyr is in the extreme north of Pern, on the largest island of the chain that seperates the Eastern and Middle Seas, just barely on the outer edge of the snowy wastes. Consequently, it tends to stay cold year-round, with brutal winters and more temperate spring and summer months. The area closest to the weyr has alot of geothermal activity, including active geysers, hot springs and rather lovely hot mud pit the older residents of the weyr frequent for it's "restorative" properties.

This has created a microclimate around the weyr, enabling habitation. The weyrlake itself is a sort of hot spring, else it would be frozen most of the time. Most of the interior tunnels and caves were themselves carved by water, giving the whole weyr interior a very smooth and flowy look. Geothermic energy is also used to supply a modest amount of electricity to the weyr and to heat the sands, baths and large greenhouses which they grow a few small crops of medicinal herbs and various food items.

Outside of this geothermic field, the area is mostly rocky tundra, pine forests, and mountain. The surrounding mountains are the source for the main export of DIW, precious metals, stones and metalwork. The small range that stretches the tiny chain of islands is very ore-rich, and every so often some lucky miner hits a vein of gold, silver or gems. Some of Pern's finest blacksmiths and jewelers can trace their family lineage back to some obscure hold under the protection of DIW, secluded in the high mountains.

Pine lumber and tar for shipmaking is also another major export of the weyr, and it has a deep-water port along its hind flank. It exports its metal goods, raw ore, pine tar and lumber, precious and semi-precious gems in exchange for exotic fruits, and the warm-season crops in cannot grow, as well as fine sand from the southern beaches for it's growing Glasscrafthall. There is an extensive Minecraft and Smithcraft hall adjacent to the port for quick access.

It is home to a diverse selection of animals, such as wolves, arctic foxes and hares, and is the location of first known sighting of llithra. The dragons that originate here tend to be on the stocky side, due to the intense cold they are born into. Despite the brutal winter months and general lack of a real summer, Draco's Inferno Weyr is a welcoming place to all kinds, and we hope you will find it a such!
