Spreading his wings thoughtfully, Benneth whuffled and gazed intently at the approaching person. L'zarus stood in protective hollow between the blue's fore-arms. Holding out a slip of parchment with trembling hands, the weyrbrat ran after Benneth snarled at him, dropping the paper. The pair was well known throught the weyr, L'zarus for being a particularly nasty person and Benneth for being a particularly nasty blue, who was protective of his rider. Kneeling to pick up the slip, L'zarus snorted, narrowing his cold, grey eyes after the boy. What is it? the blue asked after a moment.

Scanning the hastily scrawled lettering, L'zarus's face dropped and quickly hardened as he crumpled it up in his fist. Sensing a curious mix of sadness and anger, Benneth let out a rare croon. "Don't worry after me...it's only my mother. She died..." he said dismissively with a flick of the wrist. Your mother? Are you not sad? Confused, the blue didn't know whether to comfort his rider or not. "Do you not know me well enough? I had no care for my mother, she treated me worse than...let's just say she wouldn't have cried if I died." Stuffing his hands in his pockets, L'zarus called mentally for his flits, Ryu and Kyofu. The red and gold came from between accompanied by what appeared to be a newly hatched green. With a groan, L'zarus realized his little flits had mated, and one of their offspring had followed them home.

"No, no no!" said L'zarus, waving his hands to fend off the little flit, it wheeled off and doubled back. It seemed bound and determined to bond to L'zarus, regardless of his wishes, so he gave in. The new green settled lovingly on the Benneth's neck with a croon. It is a male, and it likes us a lot...he says. Rubbing his forehead, L'zarus sighed. "Like I need another little terror to tend to!" Regarding the green with an adoring gaze, the red mother Kyofu chirped to her baby. The green warbled back and flapped his rapidly drying wings. Ryu, the golden sire, just gave an indifferent sniff as he sat on Benneth's head. What will we call him? Throwing his hands into the air in defeat, L'zarus said, "You name him, I'll get some meat before it flies off." and went grumbling into the weyr. Hmm...well, you seem very loving. How about Aibu? That is "loving dearly". Do you like Aibu, little one? Warbling as high as his voice would go, Aibu accepted his name. Turning an interested gaze back to the weyr, Benneth watched his rider cross the bowl with two pack under his arm. "Are we ready?" he asked the multicolored menagerie before him. Benneth nodded and helped his rider aboard as the flits took refuge in L'zarus's riding jacket. Stopping only to give a few gobets of fresh meat to the new little flit, and to tie a pack of food over Benneth's withers, L'zarus told Benneth to take flight. The blue leapt powerfully skyward and went between on L'zarus's command.

They had decided to scout new homes for a few sevendays and, if finding none suitable, would return to L'zarus's birthplace. He didn't particularly wish to return home but he could withstand it. "Maybe father will die before it comes to that." he thought grimly as the pair arrived over their first weyr, Tiynarea. Well, even if you don't decide on this place, I would like to stay a few days. rumbled Benneth once they'd landed. "Why?" The blue nodded to a shimmering green-gold beauty, clearly glowing. "Ah, you fancy her? Well...I'll sign you up..."

His voice was less than enthusiastic, he remembered how Benneth got during flights. While normally he was reserved and a loner dragon, in flight he became rather mean and vengeful. In his first he'd attempted to drag another dragon from competition after he himself had already lost. Of course, L'zarus became a little...overenthusiastic as well. Shrugging, L'zarus headed for the flight board. Who knows, the blue might just shape up this time.
