"Two flightsss lost. And I thought you were a powerful dragon." Oehler teased the red-obsidian. Utath rumbled unhappily. His two losses weighed more heavily on him than they seemed to on Oehler. The wareiphian was unconcernedly sharpening the huge battle axe/staff he constantly carried, oiling the metal and wood lovingly. You do not make things better by taunting me. the dragon growled, shifting his obsidian wings.
Oehler chuckled and reached out to stroke the kjahath's eyeridges. "I know you will win one in the future, just do not be in sssuch a hurry to be tied down by a female and children. They bring nothing but trouble." Utath lifted his head and eyed his draconic bond. You would know of the trouble of females and children? I thought that on your world, children did not know their parents. With a laugh, Oehler rose to place the carefully cleaned weapon upon the pegs withing his weyr. "That doesss not mean that I have not fathered my ssshare of eggsss in the past, nor that I have never been with a female. Asss High Protector, those willing to mate with you are never in ssshort sssupply and there isss the inevitable accident."
The red-obsidian gave a small, surprised whuff. Are you telling me that you have had children? "Children. What isss ssso ssspecial about them? They cannot fight and you have to ssspend countlesssss man-hoursss training them to. I have never had any use for younglingsss. And yesss, I have fathered one or two eggsss in my life. Who knowsss, maybe more." With that, Oehler shrugged and scooped the sleeping Keelie from his bed. If I had fathered children, I would want to know how they were doing, I would want to see them! You have never felt that way? "You have to understand, Utath," Oehler replied as he readied himself for bed. "my kind aren't particularly maternal or paternal. We give our young to the community before they even break ssshell. Not to sssay there isn't the odd duck amongst we wareiphiansss. Knowing your parentage is not forbidden, nor isss ssseeking out your young."
Utath whuffed again and gazed out at the starry sky. Is this a bad time to mention that I have found another I wish to chase? Oehler sighed and turned to face the red-obsidian kjahath. "Who now?" He rumbled, A beautiful silvery-black dragoness by the name of Eienpaia. She is rising at a place called Darkling Dawn. Shrugging, Oehler replied, "What choice to I have? I just hope her rider doesss not mind one sssuch asss I."
Utath rumbled again, happily. I don't think she will, as long as you can stand to lose a pint or two of blood. Had the dragon been human, Oehler would have sworn he was wearing a sleazy grin on his face. "What do you mean? Will I have to fight her?" A manic gleam filled Oehler's blue eyes. Battle had been so scarce since he'd arrived to bond his Utath, Thread wasn't that satisfying to fight. Maybe, but not the way you are thinking. Her rider, Shino, is a vampire. She drinks blood. "Well, thisss may very well be an interesting flight after all..."
