V'mar?
V'mar grunted at his dragon from under a layer of pillow.
You know what I sometimes wish? "I wish you'd let me sleep later than sunrise." As if oblivious to his rider's words, Loarth continued.
Well, I wish two things...One is that I could be a graceful on the ground as you say I am in the sky. I might not show it, but knocking everything over in sight does embarrass me some. Especially when there are females around. Nugget chittered her complaint at the blue for waking her. She and Clint had had a mating flight not too long ago, and the little gold was egg-heavy and grumpy as a proddy queen. "What else do you wish, Loaf?" Loaf was V'mar's nickname for Loarth.
A young weyrbrat had called the blue that when he couldn't say his simple name, and it stuck.
I wish to chase somewhere.
Sitting up, V'mar had to think a second before his mind could grasp what his dragon had just said. "Chase? I didn't think you were ready for that yet." He swung his feet over the side of the bed and went to sit with Loarth on his ledge. I am. I've been thinking about it for a while, watching males from our weyr go chase elsewhere. Xayth says that
there seems to be a mature male shortage at other weyrs. Most are mated to one dragon only, and do not want to fly other dragons. Flights fill slowly and females are only chased by two or three dragons. I want to help, as well has have offspring of my own.
"I see you definitely have thought about this." He laughed softly. "My how a dragon matures." Loarth snorted and nosed V'mar's shoulder.
I am not by any means mature. I can act like it though. "Well, not-so-mature Loarth, have you given any thought to where you want to chase?"
We could just ask around, I've heard a lovely white is rising at a place called Xidaver. Sighing, V'mar rose and went for his flying straps. "Very well, I've got no choice right?" Loarth bugled from his ledge and made to jump off. His claws skidded on the stone and he actually slipped off, having to pump his wings hard to regain control.
"Oy."
At Xidaver...
Loarth circled over Xidaver and landed in the feeding grounds. "See any you like?" The blue scanned around, and his eye caught on the lovely white he had heard about as she basked on a rock ledge.
Her. I like her! He reared up like a runner and bugled, batting his wings and creating a dust storm in the weyrbowl. "Calm down, you look like a courting wherry! Find out her name and I'll sign you up!" V'mar called over annoyed dragon roars and people shouting.
Destoneth, isn't that the most pretty name you've heard?
As soon as V'mar had jumped off, Loarth hurried to introduce himself to the basking white.
