Jahroth crooned sofly in pain as she smoothed numbweed over another gash on his side. "It's okay Jahroth," Lelandra said in a soothing voice, "this numbweed will kill that pain immediately." She stroked the blues eyeridges and reached for another bandage to wrap up his wound. "You know you don't have to go along with F'lan when he wants to fight." He was defending my name, and I'll defend his... right to the death!
She laughed softly. "You dragons and your riders, never speaking bad of the other. I admire that y'know." You would make an excellent candidate yourself.
"I've been told that by several, but Kadith's clutch is full..." She sighed and tied the last bandage. "There, all patched up." Jahroth rested his head in her lap and she scratched his eyeridges.
You could ask to Impress outside the weyr...I'm sure Kayla will allow you. We need all the dragons we can get.
"I don't know if my father will allow me though. He and I are the only dragonhealers aside from Kayla, and with Kadith's eggs on the sands I cannot leave, or poor Papa will be overrun with weyrlings and their injured dragons." She smiled and lifted Jahroth's head between her hands. "You made me feel better. You're a charmer just like F'lan. Now, go back to him, I'm sure he's anxious to see you so you two can get into more trouble." The blue turned and walked outside to meet his rider. As Lelandra stood, she noticed the mess left after Jahroth's frantic arrival. Dragon blood was on the floor and dirty cloths were strewn about the room. "Shards." she murmured under her breath as she began to clean up the mess.
Suddenly a drudge burst into the room, panting. He doubled over to catch his breath and then looked up at Lelandra. "You have a visitor waiting in the weyrbowl." he said, still breathing hard. "Can't you see I'm busy? My father will have me strung up by my ears if I don't clean this up before another case comes." "Weyrwoman Kayla wishes you to come." At this Lelandra was all ears. "Well, I guess this can wait."
She dropped the cloth with which she'd been trying to mop up the blood and followed the drudge into the weyrbowl. Cinder leaps up and lands on her shoulder, not about to be left out. Outside, Kayla stood with a young man. When she noticed Lelandra, she turned to speak to her. "Lelandra, this is G'ran, he is here on a Search for Tiynarea Weyr. He thinks that you would be perfect for a clutch on the sands there." "I um....I don't know...." Lelandra stammered, astounded by this sudden news. "I have spoken with your father, and he wishes for you to go...you can still be a dragon healer and rider a dragon, you know. He wouldn't want you to pass up on this...especially since your mother was a goldrider herself." Lelandra's gaze shifted to the sky, thinking back to when she was no more than 3 turns old, watching her mother fly on her golden Melinanth. "I'll go." she said, frimly believing that this is the only way to honor her mothers name. "Good!" G'ran said, and gestured towards his large brown. "Stergroth and I will take to to Tiynarea now if you like." "Yes! let me go say goodbye to Papa first."
Lelandra ran back into the healers quarters, back to where her father is taking an inventory of their supplies. She threw her arms around him. "Thank you so much Papa!" He turned and hugged her back. "I knew you would want to go." Looking up at him, she reached up and stroked his old blue firelizard, Mehan. Then she hurried up the stairs in the main weyr, to the room of her best friend, Klaera.
"Klaera!" she looked around the room until Klaera came out of the bathing quarters. "I've been Searched!" she shouted and ran to hug Klaera. "Lelandra! That's wonderful!" Klaera hugged her and smiled broadly. "I know! Maybe I'll Impress a gold like my mom!" Lelandra said. "Good luck and clear skies!" Klaera hugged her one last time before she bolted out of the room, Cinder flying not too far behind her. She hurried outside as if she were to wait any longer, her place in the clutch would be taken. G'ran and Stergroth were waiting. Kayla helped her on to Stergroth's back and wished her good luck. Cinder coiled herself tightly around Lelandra's neck as powerful muscles coil beneath them and the brown leapt into the sky and immediately between.
