Hursth rumbled amusedly at his clutchmate's antics down at the weyrlake. The blue was flirting relentlessly with the greens, splashing playfully and making sweet talk. "It's almost sickening." S'van said beside him. Let him have his fun, he and your brother are celebrating the end of weyrling classes. As if on cue, T'san strolled drunkenly into view, singing a raucous song with a few other blue and green riders. "Speaking of which, have you given any thought to what you want to do, now that we've graduated?" The brown shrugged mentally, turning his gaze to the rapidly darkening sky.
A muffled bugle came from below, as Kith was thwacked over the head by one of the less patient females, and leapt to sanctuary on Hursth's ledge. S'von left quickly to make room, and decided it was as good a time as any for supper. Well, if you would have just told me to stop! The blue bugled again, before turning to Hursth. Soooo, where are you going to chase? Hursth blinked and recoiled his neck a little in surprise. I had not thought of chasing, brother. Where are you going? The blue settled himself down and watched the females moodily for a second before responding. Oh, I don't know. T'san is really keen on me joining the same flight you do, so we could win and he could torture S'van some. Kith flicked a forepaw indifferently. I've not seen any female I'd like to chase yet, though.
With a nod, Hursth returned to gazing at the stars contemplatively. There was a few moments of silence, until the brown spoke up. I think I would like to chase somewhere...different from you. We have been together since birth, and that seems to cause our riders trouble. Do you not agree? Kith rumbled. I do. I could try to persuade T'san, or you could sign up for a flight I am not eligible for, whichever is more convienient. Goodnight, Hursth. Abruptly, the blue rose and spread his wings, leaping for his own ledge.
Sighing, Hursth turned to go settle on his couch for the evening when S'van burst into the weyr, his face red and breathing heavily. "Come on Hursth, we're going." Startled by his rider's entrance, Hursth watched silently as S'van gathered his things and grabbed the flight straps. He jerked unusually hard as he strapped them on, and though it didn't hurt Hursth, it prompted a question. Where are we going, and what happened to make you so upset? Sensing his dragon's distress, S'van reached up to soothe him. "I'm sorry, but T'san said something downstairs, and I just need to get away from him for a while." Maybe...I could chase somewhere... The suggestion was slipped in so non-chalantly, S'van didn't catch on at first. "Okay, we...what? You want to chase?" The brown nodded, and rumbled reassuringly. Kith and I agree that we all need some time apart. Perhaps I could enter a flight which blues are not eligible for, to ensure our seperation. Sudden realization dawned on S'van's face. "Ah, you two thought it all out for us people, eh?" With a chuckle, S'van tied his bedroll and pack over Hursth's withers. "But where too?" With a mischievious glint in his eye, Hursth helped S'van mount. There is a frenzy at a place called Dou Pas, they are looking for "pure" browns such as I, amongst other colors. It would be interesting to participate in, no? The brown moved to the ledge and lept off, scanning the Rim and ledges for a familiar blue shape. "It does sound interesting. I've heard of those frenzies, they attract some of the more colorful dragons." Hursth rumbled amusedly. Yes, and this one promises to be just so. With the signal from S'van, Hursth went between.
Over Dou Pas, Hursth bugled a greeting. Look at them all! Such a rainbow! the brown remarked as he began a landing spiral. "Yes, this frenzy will indeed spawn some beautiful dragonets." Landing only long enough for his rider to slide off, Hursth took off again to inspect his competition and court the few females. S'van watched the brown and grinned with pride. He would produce one if not more strong clutches indeed.
