Pouring over maps brought up from the records room, Helleri squinted at the Snowy Wastes. What she was looking for, only she and Kaieth knew. The rest of Starburst Weyr was clueless and curious, some questioning the bear-shifter's sanity. Who would want to go know so much about the inhabitable Snowy Wastes? Why would a queenrider want to go there? Nothing yet? the gold/bronze asked from her side of the weyr. "No, no one on this planet has done enough exploring so far north." she huffed and shut the book she was reading with a snap.
Well, it seems reasonable, doesn't it? Helleri turned and faced Kaieth. "What do you mean?" She shrugged her wings. Why would they? There is nothing to protect, nothing to be gained by exploring north...Thread is the most immediate thing on most peoples minds during a Pass, growing food and prospering during an Interval. It seemed logical, something Helleri should have realized long ago. Then again, Kaieth was more the logical and analytical one. "True...well, we'll just have to find the northernmost weyr on Pern." She turned back to her book and brushed Ryniv aside.
Mistake. The flit countered back with a quick jab of his stinger-tipped tail, ending up missing and getting it stuck in the desktop. "That shows you to attack your mistress." Helleri said and began to flip through the book for a map of the northern continent. Ryn' struggled to free his tail from the wood and failed. "Aha!" Helleri stood and carried the heavy book into the weyr of her dragon. "This place, Draco's Inferno. No other weyr is closer to the snow...and look! Minecraft, Smithcraft, Glasscraft...we bears couldn't find a better place if we tried!" To Draco's Inferno then, I can inform your parents bonds and we'll-
"Wait! You said you could inform my parent's bonds...that means they've...they've bonded?" The gold/bronze nodded her wedge-shaped head. I sought them out not long ago, your friends Solange and Pyree have also bonded. Helleri was delighted. "What? Where?" She bombarded the poor dragons with questions until Kaieth had to press her muzzle to the end of Helleri's nose to get her to be silent. Your father and mother are both at a place called Star City in the nexus; he has bonded semizappy red Yarro and she, purple Kinya. Solange and Pyree are also in the nexus. Solange is at Darkling Dawn has bonded red-white striped green Eusyscth; Pyree is at Ryslen and bonded featherwinged purple Usaroflyin. They are both at the adolescent stage, but your parent's bonds are both adults. They would have already come looking for you, but they saw that dragons sometimes went unbonded at clutches from Star City Dragonry and volunteered to sponsor one. They await a clutch to hatch to take an unbonded home.
The dragon paused to allow her weyrmate to absorb this information. "Wait, you said take an unbonded dragon home. Where is home?" she asked after a while in silence. The gold/bronze smiled in her draconic way. They too were searching for a place to live, and found this Draco's Inferno as well. They requested and were granted ten dragonrider spaces once all had Impressed, that is were they will be taking the unbonded. Helleri grinned and ran for Kaieth's flying straps. "They always were a step ahead of me, come Kaieth, to Draco's Inferno!"
The queen stood on her ledge, Helleri aboard and trumpeted into the approaching night. Several dragons bugled a reply and a farewell as dragon and rider disappeared between...for home.
