Solange was thrown head-over-heels once she entered the portal. Spinning out of control through the flashes of blue and white, she tried as hard as she could not to loose her breakfast. At last, after a brief moment trapped in an empty void of black nothingness, she tumbled out and slid down a short embankment before stopping.
Laying there while her head and stomach caught up with her, Solange listened to the wildlife that twittered, barked, mewed and growled all around her. It seemed very noisy to one who had spent all her life on a lifeless, frozen desert that was devoid of the sounds of singing birds or the scuffling of tiny feet in the undergrowth.
Those scuffling feet began to creep nearer and nearer to her, so Solange rolled over and propped herself up to come nose to nose with a small, wide-winged and bouncing, brilliant yellow and green creature. It promptly nipped her on the nose and bounced off, leaving her shouting, "Come back here, you filthy little thing!" A minor struggle to rise, then she was off chasing the brilliant yellow creature. It bounded on, following a well-worn trail in the forest Solange didn't even notice.
"Maybe it can help me..." was her slightly skewed logic, probably skewed by the ride through the blue portal. She ran after it, sliding to a stop as a large creature landed in front of her. A very large, very blue lizard thing, to be exact. Not paying attention to where it was hopping, the little flit jumped right into the blue thing and let out a loud yelp/screech. It struggled to flap it's wings and swerved away, right into Solange's arms, to her surprise.
Blinking up at the immense creature which she had never seen the likes of, Solange took a step or two back and clutched the little flit to her breast protectively. Don't be afraid, I'm not going to hurt you. a deep voice entered her mind, the words certainly not carrying the emotion of assurance they spoke. "I...er...uh..." she stammered, and took a few more steps back. I am Rigleth, of Darkling Dawn. the creature said, dipping his great head in greeting. And you are...? "I...er...I'm Solange."
Her voice sounded small and more frightened than she actually felt. "What is Darkling Dawn? And...what are you?" A little bolder now that she was sure the beast wasn't going to eat her, Solange settled into a more relaxed but still wary stance. You have never seen a dragon? Odd, for someone who was just dropped off on our doorstep by a transportation portal. Darkling Dawn is a place, where I live. Would you like to see it? Rigleth knelt and offered his back for her to ride on. She hesitantly boarded, feeling awkward as she straddled the dragon's neck.
Hold tight. With a powerful wingstroke, the blue was up in the air and over the trees. Solange clung to his neck-ridges for dear life. The flight was short, but not short enough in her opinion and she hastily slid off of his back once he landed, ending up on her rear in the dirt. Blinking calmly at her, Rigleth said, I am sorry if you disliked the flight, but you might want to get used to it. "Used to it...why?" asked Solange, dusting herself off. Because I have now officially Searched you for the current clutch on Darkling Dawn's sands, Solange. the dragon replied and nodded in the direction of the sands.
"Searched? Clutch?" Solange shook her head and hugged the leap-flit closer to her, and felt it nuzzle her neck in affection. "I'll call you Rilas." she thought of the leap-flit in her arms. You will Impress a dragon, like me. Rigleth said and nodded again toward the sands. Go look, I can ask my rider to sign you up. And be careful where you step, there's a firelizard clutch under your feet. With that, the blue took off and headed for the high walls, leaving Solange glancing down at her feet. Sure enough, a small, cream-colored shell had been exposed by her shuffling about. She knelt and picked it up, but it shattered! For a moment she was distraught, thinking she'd killed whatever creature a "firelizard" was until she noticed the tiny lizard creeling up at her.
"What the..." she whispered and picked it up. Suddenly she felt a voracious hunger fill her mind and realized it was coming from the flit. "Er, are you hungry?" she asked it, but all it did was creel louder. "Okay, okay...Avitre sounds good for you, little one." Murmuring softly, Solange turned to where Rigleth had pointed earlier and cradled her two new friends and thinking of the rest of her now-scattered family.
