Epoch: e-pok; n; an event or
a time marked by an event that
begins a new period or development,
a memorable event or date

As Epochith grew, it became increasingly clear that she would forever be affected by the occurrences at her hatching. She was broody, and highly protective of Aislinn. Aislinn, however, had her own mourning to do. Thair, her faithful friend and guardian to the last... If it wasn't for weyrling classes, the pair would never leave their weyr.

The weyrlingmaster says we have to come out. Epochith informed her rider in her ever-gloomy voice. Aislinn humphed and settled closer against the black-silver's side. "You can tell him to just go jump off the Star Stones, we're fine here." A few moments pause as Epoch relayed the message. A soft buzzing noise filled the back of Aislinn's mind as she tried to make small stones fly across the weyr at her. Mostly they just trembled slightly or scooted in a half-hearted way across the floor for a few feet then stopped. Epoch rumbled softly and curled her tail around Aislinn.

"A few more months and she'll be able to wrap me up in that tail..." she mused. He says he's going to send someone up here to drag us out if we don't come. He thinks we need 'socialization lessons', whatever those are. Are they a normal part of weyrling training? Rising slowly and dusting off her rear, Aislinn sighed. "No, they're not. And we still aren't coming out. Dragons and their riders can be antisocial too." The black-silver rumbled again, this time in quiet dragon laughter. Should I tell him that?

"Don't bother, we are officially ignoring every one in this weyr but each other."

Very well, but here they come...

No sooner had the morose words entered Aislinn's mind did the scrabbling of claws and rustling of wings signal an arrival. He entered the weyr looking more than a little pissed. "I want you and your dragon outside of this weyr right now! That is an order, young lady!" Sticking her chin out in a gesture of child-like disobedience, Aislinn was half tempted to say "make me". Epochith was growling in a menacing way and watching the weyrlingmaster with eyes steadily turning red and gold. "Watch out sir, Epoch doesn't like it when people threaten me..." Smirking, she went and stood by the weyrling.

Epochith was just barely a head taller than her and certainly no match for the weyrlingmaster's dragon, but she flared her wings and continued to snarl. All of a sudden, her stance broke, her wings lowered and her eyes became a purple/green/gray mixture. Now it was the weyrlingmaster smirking. "Dragons will always obey the queens, especially if said queen happens to be their dam." It appeared the tiny pale gold Flynnth had given one of her children a talking-to. He pointed to the ledge and Aislinn and Epochith sloped outside, both casting belligerent looks over their shoulders.

The weyrlingmaster shook his head and sighed, "Weyrlings and teenagers, sheesh..."
